Streptococcus beta-hemolytic
Strep B, also known as group B strep (GBS), is a type of bacteria commonly found in the digestive tract, urinary tract, and genital area. Many healthy people have GBS bacteria in their bodies.
If you are pregnant, a group B strep test is most often used to look for GBS bacteria during your routine prenatal screening. It may also be used to test infants who show signs of infection.
